Children's studio portraits from the 19th century
27 May 2024

In the 19th-century family archives preserved at Liberas many portraits of children can be found. For the well-to-do classes who wanted to perpetuate important events in their lives, the growth and development of their young ones quite naturally took pride of place.

Before cameras became mainstream, however, this meant a visit to the photography studio. This selection focuses on portraits made in various studios in Belgium and abroad from c. 1860 to 1900.
